CORE EXPECTATIONS:
ART 1 (1 trimester)...................................................................................................................................9, 10, 11, 12
Art 1 is an introductory level course; previous art background is not required.This course will provide students with a basic disciplined based art education experience. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the tools associated with drawing, painting, and sculpture. They will learn effective strategies and gain experiences recognizing and producing quality artwork in realistic, abstract, and emotional styles. There will be a heavy emphasis on drawing as well as many projects involving the elements and principles of design.

Prerequisite: Art 1
Art 2 is an intermediate level course that allows students to further their knowledge and skills in the visual arts. It involves the application of design principles in relationship to common art materials. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the tools associated with drawing, painting, and sculpture. They will learn effective strategies and gain experiences recognizing and producing quality artwork in realistic, abstract, and emotional styles, while emphasizing the principles of design. Art 2 students are expected to challenge themselves more than in Art 1. More artistic freedoms are given in this class, and therefore more responsibility is placed on the student.

Prerequisite: Art 2
Art 3 is an advanced course that allows students to further their knowledge and skills in the visual arts. Artwork will follow the style of the period being studied, but may be changed in medium and subject to personalize the style into a modern theme. This class provides the breadth and range of subjects and techniques to create a framework for developing individual ideas and approaches with expression as the goal. Art 3 students are expected to challenge themselves more than in Art 2. Further artistic freedoms are given and therefore, more responsibility is placed on the student.

Prerequisite: Art 3
Art 4 is an advanced course designed to create an opportunity for upper level art students to achieve mastery level skills. Students will gain effective strategies and experiences, and learn to recognize and produce quality artworks in realistic, abstract, and emotional styles. Art 4 students are expected to challenge themselves more than in Art 3. They will create an online portfolio displaying their work and experience. Additional artistic freedoms are given in this class, and therefore more responsibility is placed on the student.
- Exhibit sensitivity to visual relationships and communications embodied in works of art.
- Display attitudes of adventure and discovery in process of working and observing.
- Gain insight into aesthetic qualities in works of art and of visual experiences.
- Improve skills in control and fluency.
